Chris Izworski builds and maintains web tools that turn public data into practical decisions: comparing a bridge crossing, checking river conditions, or understanding Great Lakes water levels. Chris lives on Saginaw Bay near Bay City, Michigan. His work in public safety, his interest in the Great Lakes, and his time gardening and fishing shape the questions these projects answer. The personal profile covers his background; project notes explain the implementations.
Inside the tools
A crossing's toll and a traffic reading answer different questions. The tool keeps crossing costs, vehicle eligibility, observed travel times, and their sources visible separately. It does not label a crossing the fastest when its travel-time evidence is not comparable.
The routing layer handles temporary failures with bounded requests and limited retries. It caches complete usable results, allowing partial failures to recover on the next request. Read the traffic implementation, decision logic, and reliability tests.
A shorter posted wait does not automatically justify a detour. The comparison considers direction, traveler and lane eligibility, data freshness, conflicting reports, and the additional travel involved in changing bridges. When the evidence is insufficient, the tool explains the gap instead of recommending a switch.

This shoreline reference presents lake levels alongside historical context and named shoreline regions. Its public repository contains the deployed HTML pages and compiled assets. The original React source is not included, a distinction documented in the repository so readers know which parts they can inspect.
